The people of Barbados and the Caribbean need to challenge themselves to be better than they are.
That is according to Education Minister Ronald Jones who says while the region has made a considerable contribution to its own development this is not the time to rest on its laurels.
The minister was speaking at the launch of the Sagicor Visionaries Challenge Workshop for the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or STEM project at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre Friday.
He said the region has the capacity and intellect to move outside the services sector and into innovation.
Meanwhile, the STEM project now in its second year is expected to attract secondary school students from across the island.
Chief operating officer, Edward Clarke says it is sponsored by Sagicor with assistance from the Caribbean Science Foundation and the Caribbean Examinations Council.
Mr Clarke hopes the project will help the region further its technological and economic development by engaging its young people.
