The Sagicor Visionaries Challenge is an initiative conceptualised by Sagicor Life Incorporated and the Caribbean Science Foundation (CSF), in partnership with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).
According to Principal Representative for Sagicor Saint Lucia, Ray Atkinson, the Challenge was to encourage young people to think of innovative ways to establish and maintain sustainable Caribbean communities.
Atkinson says the insurance company believes it can make a difference by helping to advance the aptitude of students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math-the (STEMs).
According to Sagicor Officials, participating schools are given one-year to develop a project, which has real world applications for their school and the society.
The best projects go head-to-head before a panel of judges and a national champion is selected to vie for the grand prize at the regional level
In 2013, CXC academic standout Ravindra Mangar of St. Mary’s College made history as the first Sagicor National Champion.
Ravindra and his teacher travelled to Tampa, Florida where they visited the Kennedy Space Center, Disney World’s EPCOT Theme Park and the Museum of Science and Industry.
